Fishing Trip on the Hauraki Gulf
Had to be at the boat for 6am departure aboard the charter Boat Cobalt skippered by Alan Viscovisch.
The writer of this article was just a little late but confident the boat would not go with out her as she had the money!!.
All aboard by 6am we headed out of Westhaven on a beautiful calm morning, 1st stop Tiri channel. From the dropping of the first bait the fish started coming on board. Just off the back of the boat was a kayaker drift fishing until a dorsal fin surfaced right behind his kayak. We moved spots a couple of times and the fish kept coming onboard from all anglers except the writer.
There was big excitement onboard when Taki hooked onto something huge, it kept taking line and all other lines came in while Taki fought this monster which actually turned out to be the hapless Kayaker!! I wondered why he was getting closer to the boat.
The bins were filling fast and finally after a move to the motuihe Channel the writer came into her own and filled her bin.
The skipper and his trusty side kick were superb in looking after us, we could not recommend him highly enough in fact we are booked again in May.
To often a charter skipper will take you out drop the anchor and hope you get fish rather than go looking for them. Alan was also extremely helpful with rigging and information.
All in all a great days fishing then back to the RSA to fillet the fish and have a well earned beer.
